A Tiresome March says Hello to April's Fools ...

Damn, what a month. 'March Madness' started out fun, but I lost my bracket when Texas sucked it. Go figure, you never know when this game will be predictable. ALL #1's are in, go figure ...

March didn't start on an all too sour note, though. We saw the tail end, or maybe the dreadful beginning of the drama that is Barry, The Rocket & Canseco. Damn, sounds like a bad law firm. That one's gonna' go on 'til after this season is all said and done. I feel it comes down to this----who's lying, who's lying and which one is lying. Baseball's mark is even more tarnished than before. With or without asterisks. Opening day, was a bit hum-drum, the Yankees were rained-out. Baseball, is a game that I love, hate, love, hate, love. All is not lost, though. As good as the excitement was, even with the rain-outs. This just maybe the season that digs baseball out after this winter of reports, hearings and fictional accounts of the drama that steroids and baseball has become ...

We also saw the 'farewell', not a fond one mind you, but a solemn farewell to one of the greats, if not The Greatest ------- Brett Favre. Now, know 1st that I AM NOT a Packers fan. A Die-Hard Jets fan, that I am, grew up with Joe Namath, I bleed Green & White during the season. So, know that YES, I DID say The Greatest. My ears are burning right now about rings, multiple interceptions and Brady. Still, I repeat ------ The Greatest. Why? Well, let's talk. sure Brady has 3 rings, yet 2 came by way of sensational coaching, and awesome receivers. One came by way of accident and a starting quarterbacks injury. Let's face it, this past season would not have been as great s it was for the Patriots, if not for Randy Moss. Hell, Joe Montana was awesome due to guys like Jerry Rice, who could catch a Lima Bean if you thew it 50yards. Brett Favre, was the quarterback who could throw, and did throw to practically anybody, relying on instinct, and sometimes a little luck. Yet, this average player, with an arm of gold, threw with restless abandon ----- yielding to natural impulses. His last season, this past season, was historical, heroic. Guaranteed to land him in the Hall of Fame in his 1st year. Let's face it though, he was a hero long before that. Besides the 3 consecutive MVP's, the broken records, etc. He lived, and we lived with him, his battles off the field, Alcoholism, his wife's fight with breast cancer. Who could forget, and who didn't cry when he played the game of his life ------ Monday Night, December 22nd, 2003,
passed for four touchdowns in the first half and 399 total yards in a 41-7 victory over the Raiders on international television. The day AFTER his father's death, he played as a son, a father, a hero. This man, thru the simple factor of being human, showed what 'Bigger than Life' really meant. Brett Favre ----- You can't package 'The Greatest' quarterback better than that ...
